OpenBoard Demo using Invision Board 1.3 skin

|
What is OpenBoard?
OpenBoard is a new kind of multi-purpose web forum and bulletain board software. Inspired by the no-longer freely available Invision Board suite, OpenBoard takes many of the concepts common to bulletain boards and web forums and expands upon them in all directions. Current goals are support of Invision Board 1.3 databases and skins, and support for phpnuke and phpBB is planned. OpenBoard also contains a number of unique features, including it's SOAP message notification system.
Its primary aim is to be fully modular, so that different software technologies can be easily linked into OpenBoard with minimal effort and maximal integration.
OpenBoard is currently in an alpha/development stage and may be checked out from CVS (i.e. there is no official release yet). It works with PHP 4.3.0 and greater, including PHP 5, on Unix and Windows systems.

Well, the first test of OpenBoard and SoapClient has been successfully done, and I'm proud to say that it worked almost flawlessly on the first try!

I've got a copy of OpenBoard up and running on SourceForge now. It is based on the current CVS source and will be updated often. The major hurdle in getting it running was trying to make OpenBoard work on the ancient version of PHP that SourceForge puts on this site (currently PHP 4.1.2), but it works so far, so YAY! You can find it right here, so take a look. It's very slow, and still giving me spurious errors (it's much more stable on PHP 4.3.0 and above), and you can see that a lot of things don't work yet, but steady progress is being made.

Whew! Tons of updates. I've fixed the IBF 1.3 skin converter once and for all, so it works flawlessly now. I've added an RSS 1.0 skin engine, so now you can get any forum page in RSS. I've also added a SOAP message subsystem, so that whenever certain events (such as posts, logins, new topics, etc) happen, the server sends SOAP messages to a list of clients informing them of the events. Work has begun on a client for recieving the messages, it is written in Java and is in the CVS repository. Also, the IBF 1.3 database system has been fleshed out some more, and numerous engine improvements and fixes have been added. A section has been added to the webpage to focus on the SOAP message client, it is here.

A lot of work has been put into OpenBoard so far, most of it infrastructurial. The core code is pretty much done, so now I'm focusing on getting the bulk of the code -- skin support -- implemented. But more on that later.
